Microsoft has published the updates for two separate groups; where one group will receive the update 22622.290 while the other will receive the update 22621.290. Update 22622 will have new features introduced to the Beta channel, whereas update 22621 will have the new features disabled by default. Moreover, some fixes apply to both these updates, whilst some only apply to build 22622. The 2-update approach has been adopted by Microsoft for this flight as a means to test their enablement packages for Windows 11, as they do with Windows 10 already. After the 2 groups have installed the respective Windows update, the feedback from them wi ll help Microsoft “make decisions on whether to make new features available for more Insiders by increasing their rollout or, in some cases, disabling a feature to address bugs.” A user may or may not be able to choose which update they want to install. If you land in the group receiving update 22621, you can optionally install update 22622 instead from the Windows Update Settings page. However, if you land in the group receiving the 22622 update, you will not have the option to install update 22621. As mentioned earlier, the new features are only available in update 22622. New in Windows 11 Build 22622

Suggested Actions

The Suggested Actions feature was first introduced in Windows 11 Build 25115 on the Dev channel. This feature allows you to perform certain actions faster through inline suggestions. These suggestions will be offered by the OS, depending on what you have highlighted or copied. For example, if you copy a date, you will be advised to save an event in your calendar. OneDrive Storage Alert and Subscription Management

Users can view details on their OneDrive Standalone 100GB subscriptions on the Accounts Settings page. This feature was first introduced in Windows 11 Build 25145. The details you can now view and manage include your recurring billing, payment method, and storage consumption within Windows 11. Moreover, if you are near to or above the storage limit, you will be notified accordingly.New Accounts page Note that this feature is just beginning to roll out, therefore you might not see the new improvements right away if you installed build 22622.

Fixes and Improvements in Build 22622 Only

The following fixes and improvements apply to the Windows 11 Build 22622 only:

[File Explorer]Middle-clicking a folder in the body of File Explorer will now open it in a new tab.The row of tabs should now be included in the keyboard focus cycle when pressing Tab or the F6 function key. Once focus is in the tab row, you can use left or right arrow keys to navigate through them.An issue where the tab order when using the CTRL + Tab shortcut keys would be wrong if you rearranged the tabs in File Explorer has been fixed.Some adjustments have been made for when “Display the full path in the title bar” is enabled, to ensure that the folder name is always visible.A scaling issue that could result in the tabs being unexpectedly large has been addressed.Right-clicking a tab and then clicking somewhere else in File Explorer should dismiss the context menu more reliably now.

Fixes and Improvements In Both Builds 22622 and 22621

The following fixes and improvements apply to both Windows 11 builds, i.e. 22622 and 22621:

Microsoft has added the Server Message Block (SMB) redirector (RDR) specific public File System Control (FSCTL) code FSCTL_LMR_QUERY_INFO.Support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 in Windows client and server Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) implementations has been added.The Remove-Item cmdlet has been updated to properly interact with Microsoft OneDrive folders.The InternetExplorerModeEnableSavePageAs Group Policy has been enabled.An issue that causes the Take Photo button to disappear when you use a common file dialog to open the camera has been fixed.An issue that prevents devices from receiving an offer from Windows Update for the same extension driver when that extension driver is already installed without the base driver has been addressed.An issue that causes install from media (IFM) creation for Active Directory to fail with the error “2101 JET_errCallbackFailed” has been fixed.An issue that occurs when the Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (LDS) resets the password for userProxy objects has been addressed.An issue that prevents Microsoft Edge from being available in Windows Sandbox has been fixed.

With these new features, improvements, and fixes, there are also several known issues we think you should know about before installing either of these updates.

Known Issues

[General]There is an issue resulting in a small number of Insiders in the Beta Channel experiencing cyclical crashes in Windows UI components (like explorer.exe), making it appear that the screen is flashing. If you are impacted, running the following command from an elevated PowerShell window should resolve it:Add-AppxPackage -Register -Path C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.UI.Xaml.CBS_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown[File Explorer]The up arrow is misaligned in the File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update.

How to Install Windows 11 Build 22622 or Build 22621

To install this update, you need to be running Windows 11 and subscribed to the Beta channel. If you have enabled Windows updates, you will automatically get a “New features are ready to install” prompt.

If not, follow these steps to install either update: Once the computer restarts, you can verify that the OS has been updated to the build specified by typing in winver in the Run Command box. It may be possible that you see both updates that can be downloaded and installed (if you are part of the group that originally received build 22621). However, you can only select one. Click Install/Download and Install beside the update you wish to install.Choose the update to install

Rollback/Remove Windows 11 Insider Preview Update

If you do not wish to keep the installed preview update for some reason, you can always roll back to the previous build of the OS. However, this can only be performed within the next 10 days after installing the new update. To roll back after 10 days, you will need to apply this trick.
