Exynos 2200’s Xclipse 920 GPU Is Not Even 20 Percent Faster Than ARM’s Mali-G78 MP14 Found in the Exynos 2100
The latest numbers received by TechAltar over the Exynos 2200’s performance will disappoint anyone who was hoping that Samsung would finally learn from its long list of mistakes and mass produce a custom silicon that impresses in both performance and power efficiency. Sadly, it was not to be because the octa-core CPU belonging to the latest SoC is only 5 percent faster compared to the cores running in the Exynos 2100. While we were not expecting massive gains on the CPU, the AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 920 GPU is what we were more interested in seeing. Surely, AMD’s expertise would have greatly benefited Samsung’s chipmaking efforts, right? Sadly, no, because the same numbers claim that the new graphics processor is only 17 percent faster than ARM’s Mali-G78 MP14 found in the Exynos 2100.

Highly unlikely. TechAltar points out that power efficiency and heat metrics were not shared, so things could get far worse if the Exynos 2200 thermal throttles when it is stressed enough. He also says that Qualcomm had a better GPU, with the chipset maker making improvements of 50 percent compared to the last generation, thus widening that performance gap. However, a previous OpenCL GPU test revealed that the Exynos 2200 comfortably beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Unfortunately, your joy will quickly turn to disappointment as we also reported that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 beat the Exynos 2200 in an earlier GFXBench test. In multi-core performance, the Exynos 2200 beats its nemesis but loses to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the single-core run. So what can we gauge from all this? For one thing, there should be an adequate number of tests done to reveal which chipset’s GPU thrives in which particular benchmark. We will likely come across more data in the future, so stay tuned.
